The Cole McMahon Heart of Gold Scholarship Fund was established in 2020 at the Oil City YMCA. The YMCA created the fund with Cole’s parents, Malachy and Dolly McMahon and brother Logan, in memory of Cole, whose life was cut short in a tragic car accident at the age of 24.

Cole enjoyed sports and loved working out at the YMCA.  He had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others.  Cole was dedicated to everything he did. Throughout his school career, he had perfect attendance.  He was an honors student in high school and college.

Cole was in his first year of teaching at Ft. LeBouf High School and was the Assistant Football Coach when his life was tragically cut short in 2006.

Cole’s friends and teachers at Oil City High School enjoyed his big personality and his love for all people.  Throughout his life Cole enjoyed football, basketball, swimming, baseball, weight-lifting, track, golf and motocross racing. Cole was humble, kind and enjoyed helping others.

With the support of Cole’s friends, family, and the Oil City community, Cole’s legacy will live on through the Cole McMahon Heart of Gold Scholarship Fund at the YMCA.

WHAT A GIFT TO THE COLE McMAHON SCHOLARSHIP FUND WILL DO:

Cole’s fund will help people in the community afford YMCA memberships and programs to enrich their lives.  The YMCA provides a Christian environment with caring mentors to help others succeed.

• $50 will provide two children with a youth program helping them gain confidence and skills to build self-esteem.
• $150 will allow a child or teen to join the YMCA for a year and learn make healthier choices in a safe environment.
• $600 will give a local family a YMCA membership for a year, helping them make healthier choices and enjoy quality time together.
• $2000 will give four children the opportunity to receive a year of swimming lessons, giving them the greatest chance of retaining the lifelong ability to swim.
• A gift in any amount will make a difference.
