The Community Youth Volunteer Program is open to Venango County youth between the ages of 10 and 18 without a serious juvenile record and without regard to social or economic status. Program members must be attending an educational institution.
The Community Youth Volunteer Program is based on the principles of mentoring, leadership development, job readiness and community service. The program connects youth to positive outreach sites and provides at risk prevention through volunteer work at pre-approved not for profit agencies within Venango County.
Participants in the program earn "time dollars" for each hour they volunteer up to 80 hours in a calendar year. The "time dollars" are credited to the volunteer's account at the rate of $4 an hour. The value of the hours volunteered can be redeemed for gift cards which can be used at participating area businesses. The value of the "time dollars" can also be used towards education expenses, field trips, YMCA or YWCA memberships, extra curricular activities and club participation fees. The program is housed at the Oil City YMCA. The Y, along with the funding contributors, and other organizations collaborate to deliver the Community Youth Volunteer Program.
The CYVP Director may be reached by calling the YMCA at 677-3000.
Youth Volunteers must be:
If you meet the basic requirements, you may request an application at the Oil City YMCA. After completing the application and returning it to the Program Director, you will receive a call informing you that you have been accepted into the program. After being accepted into the program, you will receive a newsletter in the mail listing the current pre-approved agencies with volunteer opportunities. It is your responsibility to call the pre-approved agency to arrange your schedule to volunteer. The current CYVP newsletter is also available by clicking the link at the top of this page.
When you volunteer for a pre-approved agency, it is your responsibility to keep a time sheet which you receive as part of your application packet. You must record all hours volunteered and have your supervisor sign your time sheet. This sheet must be returned to the Oil City YMCA at the end of each month. The Program Coordinator will then post your vounteer hours to your account.
When you would like to redeem your hours for gift cards, please call or stop by the Oil City YMCA. Please let us know how many hours you would like to redeem and whether you prefer "Wal-Mart" or "Cranberry Mall" gift cards. Your gift cards will be available for pick up at the YMCA Member Service Desk after 24 hours. If you want to redeem your "time dollars" for anything other than gift cards, please contact the Program Director to make those arrangements.
There are two basic requirements to request service from the Youth Volunteer Program. The service must be for a not-for-profit and there must be an on-site supervisor at all times. For more information about involving your agency, please contact the Community Youth Volunteer Program Director at the YMCA 677-3000.
